PORTSMOUTH

Police are seeking the public's help in tracking down the man they said abducted a Waterview woman from her driveway and robbed her of $20,000 in jewelry plus cash. The victim is fighting back with a $1,000 reward of her own.

The woman wasn't hurt, police said Monday. Police said she was leaving her home last Wednesday in the dark just after 6 a.m. when a man approached her from behind.

He said he had a gun, forced her into her car, and climbed in after her. He ordered her to hand over her jewelry and rummaged through her purse, taking cash. He then ordered her to drive, ending up near Maryland Avenue in Port Norfolk before he got out.

Police described the man as white, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, with an average build. He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, gloves and a ski mask. Police believe he's familiar with the Waterview and Port Norfolk areas, and may have been studying the victim's daily routine.

They ask anyone with information to call the anonymous-tip Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (1-888-562-5887). On top of that, the woman offered another $1,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the man who held her up; information can be phoned to Detective Ralph Ferrell at 718-8097.
