Virginia’s recycling rate remained unchanged at 38.5 percent last year, according to a state report.

The annual report by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality logs the performance of 324 cities, counties and towns, including some recycling activity by businesses.

The state’s rate exceeds the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s national goal of 35 percent by 2010.

Financial gain too!

It costs less for the city to recycle than to dispose of the trash. It's a step in the right direction to lower our trash disposal fees which are the highest in the nation.
