Rosie Flores & the Pine Valley Cosmonauts - 'Girl of the Century'

Rosie FloresTex-Mex roots rocker Rosie Flores has teamed up with musician/producer/artist Jon Langford (Mekons, Waco Bros.) and his fine Pine Valley Cosmonauts to create one of the finest rockabilly records of the year.   The Austin resident, a.k.a. “the Rockabilly Filly,” lives up to her nickname as she, Langford, and the ’Nauts produce an infectious finger-waggin’ dance down, as the album’s liner notes put it, “the back roads of American music.”

The session’s recorded live-in-the-studio with enough slapped bass, scraped fiddle, and twanged guitar for an all-night juke-joint jump. The set includes Bobby Darin’s “This Little Girl’s Gone Rockin’,” Bob Wills’ “Little Bells” and Johnny Cash’s “Get Rhythm,” along with blues warhorses “Chauffeur,” and, album highlight, “I Ain’t Got You.”

In these troubled times we could all use a rousing good rockabilly derby, and this Filly and her Pine Valley ponies gallop in with the goods.
