Surry siren test planned for Dec. 9

Posted to: News Western Tidewater

Residents within 10 miles of the Surry Power Station will hear a siren warning test on Dec. 9.

A steady tone will be heard for three minutes, beginning at 11:10 a.m., according to a news release from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management. The event will test 68 sirens in Williamsburg, Newport News, and the counties of Surry, James City, York and Isle of Wight, the agency says. In an actual emergency, residents would hear four separate tones that last three minutes each, separated by a silent interval of about one minute.
