Va., Md., Del. enter offshore wind-power partnership

Posted to: Environment News Virginia

ANNAPOLIS, Md.

Maryland, Delaware and Virginia are joining forces to promote offshore wind power.

The governors of the three states announced Tuesday that they have signed an agreement to work together on promoting federal policies, transmission strategies and other issues to advance offshore power in the mid-Atlantic region.

Delaware Gov. Jack Markell said his state is poised to become the first in the nation to develop an offshore wind farm and the agreement will help the region become a leader in development of the renewable energy resource.

Delmarva Power signed a power purchase agreement last year with Bluewater Wind, which is hoping to develop a wind farm off the Delaware coast.

Go for it!

It's about time. Leadership on this issue has always lagged other regions exploitation of local renewable energy sources.

It's now a MONEY RACE to see who builds the first EAST COAST offshore wind power generation platform. Delaware? It's NIMBY with those folks. I would support NEW business in Hampton Roads associated with wind power. I know the "Boys in Buxton" NC are getting ready for their project with state political support. In the commonwealth, we have an OIL Governor coming onboard. Drill Baby Drill. Guess we'll see if this "agreement" is still a priority with Bob in office. He IS big oil.

Where are the Paul Gardner Allen's of Hampton Roads when you need them?
