VIRGINIA BEACH

The Tidewater Veterans Parade was canceled today because of the weather.

The luncheon, scheduled for 12:15 p.m., was to be held as planned, according to coordinator Priscilla Beede.

The parade had been scheduled to kick off at 9 a.m. at the Oceanfront and continue toward the Tidewater Veterans Memorial on 19th Street, across from the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

Veterans Day

>>>my 1st grade child and 3rd grade child got into a heated argument about this because one teacher said that it was for military people who have died, served and are serving while the other teacher said that it was only for the ones who are alive.<<<
I belong to a Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Delaware. Each year, the local elementary school invites veterans to attend school that day. Activities include talking about their servie days, an all school ceremony, and inviting them to have lucnh with the students.
These kids get a first hand account. Parades are OK, but one on one with a Vet is better.

Thank you Veterans

My family and I have went to this parade the last several years, we were disappointed that it got canceled but we completely understand. Now if only the teachers knew how to explain Veteran's Day to the kids..a 3rd grade teacher at Birdneck Elementary informed the students that Veteran's Day was only for the Veteran's who are alive...when my child informed me this morning I was completely shocked...my 1st grade child and 3rd grade child got into a heated argument about this because one teacher said that it was for military people who have died, served and are serving while the other teacher said that it was only for the ones who are alive.
