One of the nation's oldest Medal of Honor winners is fighting again, now with a Virginia neighborhood association that wants him to take down his front-yard flagpole.
Supporters, including a U.S. senator, are falling in behind 90-year-old Army Col. Van T. Barfoot, a World War II veteran.
Barfoot put up the 21-foot flagpole in September. He raises the flag daily at sunrise and retires it at sunset.
But the Sussex Square homeowners' association says the flagpole violates the neighborhood's aesthetic guidelines and ordered him to remove it by 5 p.m. Friday or face a lawsuit.
U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner is among those offering to help break the impasse, according to Warner spokesman Kevin Hall. Others are backing Barfoot on the Internet, including with a Facebook page.

As a native American indian, I am deeply offended whenever I see the American flag. To me, it is a symbol of racism and hatred.

Fox news network is announcing that due to popular demand the HOA is dropping their case and the Col can now fly his flag proudly without any reprocussions from them. Congrats on your victory MOH holder, America is behind you.

For pete's sake, what does it matter that the group is a Christian organization? It is the only group that I know and trust that does this type of thing at no cost to the person who has to sue. And, yes, the Democrats are turning this country into a nation that is unrecognizable.
We are headed toward socialism and that is simply the truth. Anyway, all I did was try to help the gentleman find someone who might be able to help him. I don't care about his political belief's, I agree with his desire to fly the flag of the United States on his property and am honored to know him as a person who BRAVELY served in the armed forces.
Do you know any other group that will do the same thing? If so, then, say so and let it be done with, instead of grumbling back at someone else who is trying to help.

He could also call UVA or any law school in the Commonwealth and ask about pro bono work. They love these opportunities to help out a good cause.
Americans...
Every member of that HOA that supports this should have their citizenship revoked, and be deported to some third world country. Maybe then, they'll give some thought to what Col. Barfoot fought for.
Barfoot and America
Mr. Barfoot is fighting against a Un American ideology that is pervasive through out America . WE also have those Homeowners Associations in Texas and many of the people who are on those boards are selfserving in their beliefs , just like many school boards and Federal Buracrats . Their goal is to Destroy our core beleif / GOD - COUNTRY - FAMILY .
The shame is that , those who hate / GOD - COUNTRY - FAMILY . Are not ashamed in the very least , but rather think its funny that America allows them the freedom to voice their opinions .
To the point , the Virginia homeowners association , needs to be given a class on . 1. GOD = Based on the Holy Bible / Jesus as Saviour .
2. Country = Based on The Unification of States / under
1 Flag , 1 Goverment , servent to only 1 GOD .
3. Family = United States Constitution - Freedom ,

Let's get about a thousand patriotic Americans together to stand in the street in front of this "community" with American Flags held high; Not those little bitty one like we put on the graves, but the size that they "fly" on a broomstick poking out from the side of their houses. One or two days of that should wake these morons up. We could line the road for a mile or more. Channel 12 would be out there and the whole country would see the respect and support we show for this man. As long as we stay on the public road, there is nothing they can do about it. ALL HOA's would get the message That we are proud of our flag. My brother has a flagpole in his yard and I am seriously thinking about putting one in mine.
With Honor
I support what Colonel Barfoot in keeping his flag pole. That association doesn't own an ounce of decency nor honor for an American hero. They need a lesson about what it means to be awarded (not win, Pilot) the Congressional Medal of Honor, which is awarded (usually for giving one's life) in a selfless, heroic and patriotic act in a time of war. Col. Barfoot is a survivor and has more patriotism than all these goofballs running this "association" put together! It sickens me, a United States veteran of the armed forces, to know that this type of thing is going on! When a recipient of the Medal of Honor is wearing the medal in the presence of uniformed military personnel, even the highest ranking officer present has to salute the recipient - it's that significant. Shame on you association - bend or change your rules!!!
