NORFOLK

Police have concluded that a double homicide in August was at least partly justifiable – a case of a robber and his victim fatally shooting each other during the crime.

In a report released today, investigators said that on the night of Aug. 26, Quwasheen G. Stewart, 21, of the 2400 block of Barre St., was robbing Jervonte Barnes, 20, near Barnes’ home in the 2400 block of Azalea Garden Road.

Both men were armed with handguns, said Master Police Officer Chris Amos, a department spokesman. Stewart shot Barnes, the report said, and Barnes shot back.

Stewart died of a chest wound at the scene, according to the state medical examiner’s office. Barnes died of an abdominal wound early the next morning.

Barnes’ shooting of Stewart was justifiable, police decided.
