EPA to hold Chesapeake Bay cleanup meeting Thursday

Posted to: Environment News Norfolk

NORFOLK

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold an open meeting Thursday at the Nauticus Marine Center to discuss proposals for speeding up the Chesapeake Bay cleanup and to take public comments about the plans.

The forum, in the museum auditorium at 1 Waterside Drive in downtown Norfolk, is scheduled to last from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and is one of several meetings organized in states bordering the Bay.

Under the Obama administration, the EPA is seeking to enact new regulations and force states to do more to hasten the Bay cleanup, ongoing for 26 years.

Federal officials are collecting comments and ideas through Jan. 9 before announcing final, complete plans for the Bay next May.
