VIRGINIA BEACH
Former Norfolk judge and longtime prosecutor Chuck Griffith is leaving his post as senior commonwealth's attorney in Virginia Beach.
Griffith, who joined the office last year, is moving to the Washington area, where he'll start work in February as a federal prosecutor handling high-profile drug cases.
Three other prosecutors - Kevin Duffan, Jason Miyares and Shelly Pfeiffer - recently have left or announced plans to resign to pursue other opportunities, Commonwealth's Attorney Harvey Bryant said.
He said he has hired federal prosecutor Scott Alleman, who previously worked in the offices of the Suffolk and Virginia Beach commonwealth's attorneys. Nickie L. Adams and Christopher M. Baker, both Regent graduates and former interns at the Beach commonwealth's attorney's office, also have been hired as assistant commonwealth's attorneys, he said.

On the one hand, it is plain enough that Harvey Bryant is politically very conservative, and is a Christian of the sort that aggressively mix their religion and their politics.
Visit his office's lobby one day and see the big portrait of a tattered American flag being sewn up (repaired) by a pair of hands, with the caption being a bible verse about God healing the land once everyone prays to him (II Chronicles 7:14, I believe). No one in Virginia Beach should be surprised, when they elect and re-elect Mr. Bryant, to learn that his office is heavily staffed with members of the religious right.
On the other hand, most people with much experience in the legal community in Hampton Roads will tell you that Regent Law School has turned out lots of very capable attorneys. Make of it all what you will.
Regent
I hope those Regent atty's come out fighting. We need adherence to our laws. Someone crosses the line, breaks the law, they put themselves in front of the bulls eye of justice.
May Robertson Controls the Comments too
Wrote a view last night & find it gone today. That's what I guess happens when one points out something that the Comment Controlers" do not like. The gist if my comments are that there is significant judicial influence from certain parties. It obviously is for the promotion of ideology rather than the protection of the citizenry.
Maybe that's not to specific.
Va Bch Prosecutors
Pretty interesting they are all from Regent. Been that way a pretty long time - even from Bob McDonnel days - you know; our new governor. Seems like Pat Robertson is pretty deep into the judicial system. Might explain the fanaticism of the anti liquor and puritan entertainment policies of the City of Virginia Beach and the promotion of a specific aggressive agenda. The recent "Prosecutor of the Year" awarded by MADD was also a Regent grad. Kind of makes one wonder. Is it real concern for the citizenry or maybe more for formulating a specific way of life. Generally there are no coincidences. Just a thought for some to ponder.
Not the Best & the Brightest
It's nice to hire local but with Regent among the lowest ranked law schools in the U.S., plus their students' obvious bent towards the far right, I don't get a warm feeling when I hear they're hiring multiple grads form the place.
