More Cornbread for me please, Hell's Kitchen jumps tonight, and the Prisoners' last stand.

To start off, I've got to give a well deserved hand to Scott Barrett, BKA DJ Cornbread (@DJCBREAD for the Twitter nation) for his inclusion in Malcolm Venable's recent piece "Hampton Roads Best Mix Masters". In my mind, Cornbread is definitely a world apart from the other three, in that Cornbread plans out his sets to take you on a journey to a place you've never been. Kind of like that time you were in the 3rd grade and the class went on the field trip to the science museum, and it was like another planet (much cooler and neater than the world you were used to day to day) to you. That's exactly where Cornbread takes you. If you're seen Cornbread's sets before, then you know the man rocks some oftentimes abstract melodies over fat, lush, bassy beats to create some of the dopest remixes and mashes you've experienced. It naturally serves that the holidays shouldn't be an exception, and Cornbread serves up a huge plate this season, mixing beats with old standards (White Christmas, Santa Claus is Coming To Town), songs you rarely hear outside of holiday television (Holiday Inn anyone?), and some of the holliest, jolliest funk and soul you'll hear this month. There's a few bonuses to make you laugh as well, so it's all around entertainment. Check out DJ Cornbread's "the dopest xmas mix tape", available on his Podomatic site. While you're there, check out his other mixes as well. You won't leave disappointed in the least.

DJ Cornbread will be appearing at 37th and Zen, located at the corner of 37th St. and Hampton Blvd in Norfolk, on the 18th of December at 10PM. Admission is $5 for an evening of Hip-Hop Christmas FUNK!

Atlanta's Today The Moon, Tomorrow The Sun (although I'm starting to think we need to just stick a Norfolk flag in them and call them our own) will be throwing down a show tonight at Hell's Kitchen on Granby Street in Norfolk. If you find yourself with a free evening, make sure you get out there and catch these guys. You won't be sorry in the least. The show kicks off at 9 PM.

Lastly, epic local reggae band The Prisoners play their last performance this evening, after announcing an indefinite hiatus from live performances last month. These guys have put a lot of heart and soul into their sound and into the local music scene, and they will sorely be missed. Get your last dose of The Prisoners' roots and dub sound for a while at Cozzy's in Newport News tonight. The show starts at 10 PM, and based on their MySpace, it's been listed as a free show. To the members of The Prisoners especially, enjoy the well deserved break. We hope to see you again someday.

PRISONERS UPDATE: Unfortunately, due to a death in the family of drummer Scott Davis, The Prisoners have canceled tonight's show so that Scott may be with his family. The show will likely be rescheduled at a later date, however. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Davis family.

As a last minute reminder, if you're still trying to figure out what to do for NYE to be at that event that everyone else goes "Man, I wish I'd of been there"; the ultra secret Loose Lipps private event still has a few invites available. Find them on Facebook and maybe they'll part with the some details for you.

Now get out there and find some music to love.
