Beginning today, the 1st Fighter Wing out of Langley Air Force Base will have two weeks of training that will include night flying, the base announced.
The flights, from Dec. 7 through Dec. 18, will begin before 12 p.m. and end before 12 a.m., according to a news release. The flights will stay within standard flight patterns, and the in-flight training will take place over the ocean.
Night flying is part of the pilots’ necessary training, the release said.

back in the day
When we had TAC (Tactical Air Command to the uninitated) then Gen. Creech, Commander of 1st TAC told Hampton and surrounding cities very clearly...you build, we move. Fortunately for us, the cities listened. Too bad VaB didn't listen...too bad the Navy didn't take a more proactive approach. At every AFB there is a liason officer tasked with keeping tabs on the city the base is in. The Navy has the same thing-ACUIZ Officer-but they are JO's and will only be around for a year or two so there is no continuity. The AF has always been excellent neighbors!
JET NOISE ?
We should be thankful that the Jet noise WE hear is OUR JETS !! It could be worse !
Golly Gee ....
Golly gee, no noise complaints from Hampton or Newport News residents. Now thats PATRIOTISM! VaBch whiner's take note!
Don't forget
The governments in Hampton and Newport News didn't arbitrarily decide to allow houses in the extreme noise areas around the base like Va Beach, and allow stupid people to buy them.
It doesn't bother me but...
...many of the affected homes existed long before the sound of freedom.
Long, long before
You got that right, commonsenseguy! The other posters are merely demonstrating their ignorance of our issue.
