U.S. Rep. Glenn Nye is asking the public to help him deliver holiday cards to injured service members this season.
The 2nd District Democrat's office issued a statement this week inviting his constituents to make or buy holiday cards thanking troops for their service. They should be sent to Nye by
Dec. 11. He'll then personally deliver the cards to wounded service members recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center, his office said.
"The holidays are always a difficult time for our men and women in uniform to be away from their families, but it can be even harder for troops who are away from loved ones while recovering from an injury," Nye said in the statement.
Cards should be sent or hand-delivered - unaddressed and with an unsealed envelope - to one of Nye's two local offices. His staff will address and seal them.
Nye's Virginia Beach office is at 4772 Euclid Road, Suite E. His Accomac office is at 23386 Front St. Call (757) 326-6201 for more information.

Whats the catch
A democrate that cares about a sevicemember. This must be a major photo-op covered by all the news stations.
Owen Pickett
Yes, they do exist. Remember Congressman Owen Pickett? If you haven't been here long enough, Google him. So far, Rep. Nye seems to be the same flavor of Democrat. I lean to the right politically, but I voted for Nye and I hope we can keep him around for a while.
help me out here...
Two years ago, I took part in a Christmas card campaign to thank troops at the same hospital. My card was returned, citing a security issue. It was sealed and addressed by me. Will this year's cards be delivered because Nye's staff is sealing and addressing them? Is that the difference? Or is security still tight when it comes to mail? Anyone care to address this??
Security Concerns
Starting soon after anthrax started showing up in mailboxes across the country, the military stopped accepting mail not addressed to specific people or offices. If it's addressed to "Any Soldier" or something similar to that, it is returned due to security concerns. The exceptions have been for mail that comes thru known programs for Servicemembers.
Thanks!
My letter was addressed to "Any Servicemember" and returned about a month later. Thanks for explaining, joshk_in_vb. I'll try again, thanks in part to Glenn Nye.
holiday cards
Go to the Walter Reed website and it will explain why the cards were returned. Thank you to Glenn Nye for doing this for our service members. I know they will appreciate it, along with the community who is able to send their warmest regards over the holidays! My cousin sure appreciated the cards I delivered from a local scout troop when I visited.
