VIRGINIA BEACH

A Virginia Beach police officer was recovering Monday after being struck by a suspected drunken driver.

Officer Christopher Newbould had activated his lights and sirens on Shore Drive while responding to a domestic violence call about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, police spokesman Adam Bernstein said. As Newbould approached Pleasure House Road, another vehicle turned into his path and struck the police car on the front driver’s side, Bernstein said.

The officer and the other driver, identified as Robert Kitt, 22, of Virginia Beach, were transported to a hospital, Bernstein said.

Kitt was treated, released and then arrested on charges of driving under the influence and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, Bernstein said.

Newbould suffered a dislocated and fractured shoulder and was released from the hospital Monday, Bernstein said.

Cops are MUCH more likely to

Cops are MUCH more likely to get hit by cars than shot!

nice teaser

but please, for the sake of accuracy and not in pursuit of Enquirer-type ratings....Lead with "the Officer's VEHICLE was struck by..." c'mon DFOK, you all can do better than this.
Comfort to the Officer on his injuries.

Well wishes

Best wishes go out to Officer Newbould for a speedy recovery! It is bad enough Officers have to worry about crazies with guns, then you get hit by a drunk responding to help someone. God Bless our Police Officers!

ban automobiles

Think of the tens of thousands of lives it would save both drunk and sober. Especially teenagers who die in far greater numbers in auto's than the dreaded evil gun unless you're an L.A. gang memeber of course.
Also for the Al Gore adoring fans of make believe chic cause du-jour genre think of how bringing back the horse and buggy or horse back days would save the world from the onslaught of the ice age, whoops that was the 1970's chic dujour, I mean global warming.
But ban alcohol?!!!! Let's ban all the other pleasures of life too while we're at it. Kind of like the Taliban in Afghanistan. Not my kind of America.

You come up with some great

You come up with some great ideas Mark! Banning alchol worked great last time they did it! Everyone could get booze just as easily. Moreover, moonshine is just as available today as then. Seems to be working great with drugs as well. I wonder how your going to pay for the prisons to incarcerate half of the population without the revenue from state liquor stores. Better yet, as a VBPD member just made the paper for DUI and hit and run;, perhaps you could just acknowledge it won't work? I am quite sure he knew the law.

The idiots are out there...

It's too bad these idiots just can't kill themselves while DUI without injuring/killing others...until then, we have to put with them and put them back out on the road so they injure, maim, and kill others. All you can do is hope that they don't target you. Easy fix...ban alcohol.
