A 91-year-old Suffolk man died Friday from surgery complications after the cart he was pushing was struck by a car, causing him to fall and break his hip weeks earlier.

James Richard Brown was in the Farm Fresh parking lot on North Main Street on Dec. 21 when his cart was struck, said Suffolk spokeswoman Debbie George. The impact caused Brown to fall, hit his head and break his hip.

He was taken to the hospital, where he underwent hip surgery, George said, and later died from complications from that surgery.

Celia Outten, 82, of Zuni, was charged with reckless driving on private property and for violating a driver's license restriction, which required her to wear prescription glasses, George said.
