J.C. Penney to close call center in Chesterfield County

RICHMOND

J.C. Penney Co. is closing a call center in Chesterfield County that employs 252 workers.

According to a state filing, the call center will close March 26.

A J.C. Penney spokesman says the center's call volume has declined as customers increasingly shop online. The facility primarily handles catalog orders.

The Plano, Texas-based company announced in November that it will stop publishing its twice-yearly "big book" catalogs. Instead, it will publish specialty catalogs and focus its efforts online, on the Web site jcp.com and on social networks.
