Man killed on U.S. 58 in Suffolk on Saturday is identified

SUFFOLK

A pickup driver who was killed on U.S. 58 Saturday has been identified by Suffolk police.

David Chavis, 49, of the 2200 block of Lake Cahoon Road in Suffolk, was headed east on U.S. 58 near Wilroy Road. The driver of a Dodge Neon, who police have identified as a 16-year-old male, was headed west, crossed the median and a guardrail, and crashed into the pickup, according to a news release from the city.

The crash was reported at 3:30 p.m. U.S. 58 eastbound was closed until about 8 p.m. Saturday

The driver of the Neon was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and released. Charges against the 16-year-old are pending.
