Senator jabs Robertson over Haiti
A legislator found a way to express displease about Virginia Beach religious broadcaster Pat Robertson's now infamous comments on Haiti while asking the Virginia Senate to adjourn Friday in honor of deceased civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Speaking on the Senate floor, state Sen. Donald McEachin, D-Henrico, said King would be "saddened by those in his same line of work who say Haiti was cursed."
McEachin's remark was a reference to recent comments Robertson made about the island country devastated by an earthquake this week.
Like King and Robertson, McEachin is a minister. King's actual birthday was Friday, though the 2010 observance of the national holiday in his honor is Monday.
The other day, Del. Charniele Herring, D-Alexandria, asked that the House of Delegates adjourn in honor of Haiti. Herring was born in the Dominican Republican, an island nation connected to Haiti.
