Eastern District tournament

Today’s quarterfinals at Norview No. 6 Norview vs. No. 3 Maury, 5 p.m.; No. 5 Churchland vs. No. 4 Booker T. Washington, 7 p.m.

Semifinals Tuesday at Norcom – 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday at Lake Taylor, 7:30 p.m.

Championship Friday at Churchland, 7:30 p.m.

Outlook Top-seeded Norcom and No. 2 Lake Taylor have first-round byes, and the Greyhounds have won the past three tournament titles. The game to watch is Churchland-Booker T. Washington. The undersized Truckers have played all of the top seeds tough this season, which includes losing to the Bookers on a last-second shot. They’re led by guards Terrell Diggs (19.8 ppg) and Devin Patterson (17.0 ppg).

Where At Cape Henry

Defending champion Cape Henry

Returning individual champions (current weight class in parentheses) Cape Henry’s Will Mason (103), Scott Cunningham (125), Greg Noordanus (152) and Sam Law (171), Norfolk Academy’s Ben Alberico (145) and Norfolk Collegiate’s David Kirkland (135).

Outlook The returning champion Dolphins should come out on top of the five-team tournament. Of their four returning champions, Cunningham will have his hands full with Norfolk Academy’s Taylor Whitt at 125. Cape Henry’s Jake Henning could push Alberico at 145, while 140 could be wide open with Cape Henry’s Thomas Armistead, Norfolk Collegiate’s Chris Adsit and Norfolk Academy’s Bill Parker all in the running. The tournament will follow a round-robin format with the top-two seeds meeting in the fourth round, which is tentatively scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
