Charter schools proposal coming tomorrow

Gov. Bob McDonnell has scheduled a press conference tomorrow where he's expected to announce legislation that would loosen up Virginia's charter school laws.

It's a step toward fulfilling one of his major campaign promises on the education front. Virginia has some of the most restrictive charter school laws in the country, and as a result, currently has only four charter schools -- a number McDonnell has said he wants to see grow.

That's not all. The conference is billed as as an unveiling of "education reform legislation," because, along with charter schools, McDonnell is also expected to propose measures that would shift schools money away from administrative spending to instructional spending.

The announcement is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.
