College of The Albemarle selects new president

ELIZABETH CITY

The College of The Albemarle has selected a Davidson County Community College vice president to be its new president.

Kandi W. Deitemeyer will be the college’s ninth president, taking over for Lynne Bunch, who is retiring. Bunch has served as president since 2003.

Since May 2008, Deitemeyer served as vice president of academic programs and services at Davidson County Community College in Lexington, N.C. She also worked at Gateway Community and Technical College in Covington, Ky.; Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst, N.C.; the University of South Florida in Lakeland; and Polk Community College in Winter Haven, Fla., according to a news release from the College of The Albemarle.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and public relations, a master’s degree in counselor education, and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of South Florida in Tampa.

Deitemeyer will begin working at COA on April 19.

Bunch retires March 1, and in the interim, Ray Scaffa, vice president of student development and dean of students, will be the acting president.

The College of The Albemarle serves more than 2,400 students at locations in Elizabeth City, Dare County and Chowan County.
