Eastern region finals preview

GIRLS

Lake Taylor (27-0) vs. Princess Anne (26-1), 6 p.m. The last time Lake Taylor defeated Princess Anne 48-45 in December, snapping the Cavaliers' 112-game winning streak against South Hampton Roads teams.

Quotable "I think that Lake Taylor's a great team. We have to play our best game to beat them and now we see that. I think (the earlier loss) was an eye-opening experience for our kids," PA coach Darnell Dozier said.

About Lake Taylor

The Titans finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in South Hampton Roads and in the Associated Press Group AAA state poll. Lake Taylor, ranked 21st nationally by USA Today, hasn't won a region title. Center Crystal Leary (13.4 ppg) and guard Linda Stepney (12.8 ppg) lead the team in scoring.

About Princess Anne

The Cavaliers finished the regular season ranked No. 2 in South Hampton Roads and the state. Princess Anne is the defending region and Group AAA state champ and has won seven region titles in the past 12 seasons. Elizabeth Williams (17.2 ppg), a 6-foot-3 junior center, and Samisha Powell (15.8 ppg) lead the Cavaliers.

BOYS

Maury (22-6) vs. Norcom (21-4), 8 p.m.

The last time Maury beat Norcom 63-41 in the Eastern District tournament championship snapping the Greyhounds' 11-game winning streak and three-year title reign.

About Maury

The Commodores, who have won 11 of their last 12, are making their first Eastern Region final appearance since 2004. They've done it with guards Sim Frazier (16.4 ppg) and Jamal Ferguson (14.6 ppg) and they've also gotten help from Alphonso Leary (11.9 ppg) and Khobi Williamson. Maury leads this season's series 2-1.

About Norcom

The Greyhounds have won 13 of their past 14 games. They're led by Eastern District Player of the Year Dorian Finney-Smith (20.1 ppg). The Greyhounds also have had plenty of help from Jeremy Canty, James Theus and Decarlos Anderson.
