Forget NASCAR's baby explosion, there's going to be a Mrs. Rowdy
So, just what is going on in NASCAR? Jeff Gordon's announcement on Thursday that his wife is pregnant with their second child later this year makes five wives of Cup drivers expecting children.
Then Friday came word that Kyle Busch (known as Rowdy) proposed to his girlfriend on Thursday night. Here's a picture of her engagement ring.
Suddenly, I feel as if I should be writing for some Page 6 section instead of Sports. Births and engagements? Is this the new NASCAR?
Actually, it's not surprising. With so many younger drivers, it was only a matter of time before some were married and even some had children (Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson and Elliott Sadler all to be first-time fathers this year). This is a result of the sport getting younger. When those young drivers have been here for a few years, marriages and births are likely to happen.
Still, how much of this that is taking place certainly is a unique way to start the NASCAR season.
So maybe the question is who is next to get engaged or have a birth announcement? We might only have to wait a few days the way this is going.

daytona
The racing at daytona was pretty good, if you can tolerate restrictor plate racing, which can be frustrating to watch, considering the fact that the draft is the race. (is that racing?) the pot hole debacle was unbelievable. it was a sunny day, and all would have been good until the pot hole incident, which forced the race into the cold night, and threw everyone's plans for the evening out the window. nascar should have fixed the problem correctly the first time. if they don't have the right bear grease for the job, who does? by holding the fans hostage, nascar ruined the day for many fans. many left during the first delay, and many more during the second one. to some extent, nascar's blunder will cost it a loss of face, and a certain loss of revenue. mcmurry's dad had to leave the race before dark, then his son wins the darn race! he has got to be the angriest of all, and I don't blame him.
danica the saviour
finally, nascar has something to focus on with danica the indy driver. nascar was getting greedy and boring, so maybe the go daddy nascar rookie can sell some more products for hendricks and france. I'm not on board for this fantasy hype.
"have at it,' danica
the danica hype is so distracting. who cares if this indy driver wants to pee in the soup. if nascar wants to see the good ol boys 'have at it,' then danica will be the chief recepient of the new rough driving nonrule. other women are in some daytona races too, but no one says a word about em. is the sport so desperate for attention that it needs to court this gimmick driver in order to get attention? I'd rather see what the veterans are up to, not this interloper from indy.
Go #7 LOL
Well, after seeing and hearing Danica yesterday via her in-car camera, I am a bit worried about that girl. She asked, 'Can I go on the yellow lines?' OMG! I bet she won't be having time to ask that during the ARCA race today. Methinks she is gonna be in for a very rude awakening, lol! But, I will root for her just the same. :-) Hey guys, I will even have my trusty #7 shirt on!
wow!
Yikes! What a ring! Best wishes to Kyle and the Mrs.! And to all the new parents to be! Now it is time to race so, "Gentlemen, cool your engines"! :)
