More than 70 soldiers from Fort Lee will begin deploying to Haiti tonight from Langley Air Force Base.
Led by Lt. Col. Mark Thoreson, the 530th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion soldiers represent the largest deployment of personnel from Fort Lee in support of Haiti relief efforts. One of their planes was diverted, so half are leaving tonight and the others are scheduled to leave Tuesday, said David Hopper, a Langley spokesman.
Their return date from Haiti is unknown.
The 633rd Logistics Readiness Squadron at Langley has sent more than 220 people and prepared nearly 750 tons of cargo for Haiti relief to date.

This is just a sampling of the relieve the US military has sent.
We have many personnel, ships, equipment and aircraft in the area. These ships and aircraft were loaded down with supplies when they left. On a moments notice our military members were in action and left their families and life behind to go help Haiti. There is more US aide there than any other nation, yet we still hear the insults aimed at the US. Then to top it all off, the Haiti government is holding ten of our citizens in prison there. Whereas I don't agree with the way these ten people were trying to help the thirty kids, I don't think anyone could possibly confuse what they were doing with any evil or wrongful intent. A condition needs to be put on any future aide sent by the US, that the Haiti government will release our citizens now with the understanding that they will return if needed to appear in court. In my opinion, we (the USA) are being too tolerant of the insults the rest of the world seems to heap on us. We go out of our way and borrow money to send help to the rest of the world and then get kicked in the head for doing so. God bless the Haitian people, I hope they can somehow rebuild what little they had.
