Guard, Reserve: Cuccinelli signs support pledge

Posted to: Military

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli recently signed a statement of support for his staff members who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.

By signing the statement, employers pledge to "recognize, honor and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act," according to the Web site of the organization Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

Big Deal!!

Instead of signing a support letter, how about a "bill" with "teeth" in it to support those who are in the Reserves/Guard. Five years ago I was working in VB for a business. This owner did not share my feelings for serving or having an additional paycheck. I got deployed and when I got back, the 5 man company was "re-organized"! Translation-I was out of a job.
The problem is that the "Burden of Proof" fell to me and my attorney to haul this guy into court and prove he discriminated against me for serving in the Guard!

The law protects the business owner and not the service member!
Keep signing your letters Mr. Future candidate-it has no teeth nor impact in the real world!
