Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra - 'Heavensong"

MTCMTC’s “Heavensong: Music of Contemplation and Light” is – no exaggeration – outstanding . The ultra-inspirational CD mixes new compositions with well-known classic songs, and what a successful mix it is. Add to that the beautiful accompanying photographs and the well-written notes about the music.

The item receiving the most attention is “The Prayer,” featuring 15-time Grammy winner and mentor to many artists David Foster,  in English and Italian.

The 360-member choir is wordless, their voices becoming instruments, on the absolutely gorgeous “Pavane.” They take a complete rest on “Meditation,” another of the album’s lovely offerings. On that piece, the 110-piece orchestra takes over, spotlighting violinist Igor Gruppman.

Not surprisingly, two other haunting, inspirational items are Bach cantatas: “Sheep May Safely Graze” and “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.”
