People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has offered a $2,500 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person who stole, then beheaded, a family's pet goat.
Andy, a Nigerian dwarf goat, disappeared Jan. 29 from the pen he shared with brothers Opie and Barney on West Saint Brides Road near the Hickory area of the city. The goat's owner, Fran Hoyt, discovered Andy's severed head near the family's home Wednesday morning.
The Hoyts believe someone may have taken Andy, who was leash-trained, from his pen late on Jan. 29.
"Animal abusers are cowards," PETA director Martin Mersereau said in a written statement. "They take their issues out on the most defenseless beings available to them."
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (562-5887). Crime Line also offers a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

Thanks PETA for stepping up to the plate with reward money. Anybody that would do this is nothing short of a psychopath. I hope when they find this person (more then likely it's a male), that they do a complete mental health evaluation because we have a really evil person here that will go on to do far worse. This may be a goat but it's a living entity. Preying on the helpless is where they start.
My heart and prayers go out to the family of Andy. THank you for loving the animals.

El Chupacabra did it! Now where is my money? Ya'll ever hear of El Chupacabra? El Chupacabra is the Goat Sucker, kind of like a vampire to goats, look it up! El Chupacabra is the culprit, I know it! We need to get up a hunting party and track this animal to it's lair before any more goats are killed! Who's in?

I know some people are upset that people are showing more concern for a goat than the murder of a human. I dont believe this to be true. Not only was the goat killed in a cruel and horrible manor but the killer then placed the head where the family could see it. This is nothing short of an act of terrorism. This goes well beyond the killing of the animal. This was a direct attack on the family. Can you image the psychological harm on your own child if they had to witness a beloved family pet mutilated this way ?
This person need to be put away.

PETA? Oh, you mean the organization of naked women. For that is the persona they themselves have created. Today, due to its radical nature, PETA does more damage to a cause when it associates itself with that cause.

You might not agree with their tactics but they get the attention. Between the ASPCA and PETA these two organizations have done more for animals then any organization. Sometimes you need to be outrageous to get things done and attention. PETA gets 5 stars in that department.
Sadly mankind thinks of themselves as the superior species but look at what man has done to the planet and to the world in general.
Animals have no agenda other then the basics of care, to love and to be loved in return, to serve and protect. Will the human race ever aspire to that?

I'll pledge another $50 dollars if the person is prosecuted and serves at least a year jail time. No slaps on the hands.....

This was an evil act. No other words for it. To toss the dead animal back into their yard after this cruel deed shows they meant to hurt the people at this house. I would say by this action that this is the work of someone who knows this family and harbors a grudge. I hope they find this person and charge them with full penalties and fines for this evil act. The person who did this is a threat to the public as this heinous act was probably not the first cruel act against animals.
