Super Bowl Events
I’ve been looking for events for this weekend. There aren’t many. I think most shelters and rescues didn’t schedule stuff for this weekend because of the Super Bowl. I don’t blame them. I wouldn’t want to compete with that either. I did find a few events and a future event you may want to put on your calendar for March.
Isle of Wight County Humane Society will be at the Newport News PetsMart on Sunday from 12 to 4. I hope the weather isn’t too bad by then.
Rainbow Animal Rescue League will be at Care-A-Lot on Diamond Springs Road tomorrow. They’ll have adoptable pets there from 11 to 2.
Portsmouth Humane Society will be at Chesapeake Square Mall on Fridays and Saturdays from 12 to 8, and Sundays from 12 to 5, for the entire month of February. They’re also looking for people to spend time with the adoptable pets at the shelter. They’ll be open every Friday from 12 to 7 so you can come and share some love with the great animals there.
The Virginia Federation of Humane Societies is having a conference March 26th and 27th in Virginia Beach. Tamira Thayne from Dogs Deserve Better will be a speaker at the conference. For more info, go to www.vfhs.org.
Got a cute picture of your pet? Enter it in the Spay Day Photo Contest sponsored by the Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International. It’s free to enter. For more info, go to http://photocontest.humanesociety.org.
I found another site with info on affordable pet spaying and neutering. It’s at www.spayva.org.
Get your walking shoes ready. The 2nd annual Cause for Paws Dog Walk and Festival is coming up. Portsmouth Humane Society is raising money for the animals in the shelter and having a party too. The Cause for Paws will be Sunday, April 17th, from 12 to 4 at North Landing in Olde Towne Portsmouth. For more info, go to www.portsmouthhumanesociety.org/causeforpaws.html.
The Mosby Foundation is looking for donations to assist in paying for surgery to correct hip dysplasia in a special 7 month old puppy. The Foundation routinely helps people with vet bills, especially in special cases. Zeke is a rescued puppy that was rescued from a horrible condition of neglect, and then had to fight off a bout of Parvovirus. His prognosis for the surgery is great, and the vet says he will be pain free and have a normal happy life. His best people friend is Zoey, who looks like she’s about 5. She won’t go anywhere without Zeke. The Foundation is trying to raise $2,500 for the surgery. The family has the rest of the money to pay for the surgery. To see the flyer about Zeke, go to www.themosbyfoundation.org.
I found out last Friday that my oldest cat, Sachiko, has liver failure. She’ll be 8 years old on the 28th. Dr. Holland has her on meds and she’s still eating and drinking. I did some research on liver failure and found that as long as she’s eating, she’ll last a while longer. Her liver isn’t going to get better and eventually she’ll stop eating. When that happens, I’ll send her to the Rainbow Bridge to wait for me and the rest of my crew. Right now, I’m just trying to keep her fed, comfortable, and warm.
I’ll have lots more info for you next week. And, there are a lot of events or next weekend.
