Tebow, take 2

Just to reinforce the between-the-lines criticism I wrote about today concerning Tim Tebow, what do you make of these comments at the NFL scouting combine by new Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren, a renowned coach of quarterbacks? I make from them that Holmgren believes Tebow’s chances to be an NFL quarterback are slim to zero.

Said Holmgren: “The question any organization has to answer is, can his greatness in college translate to greatness in our game? It is quite different for quarterbacks. The things we’re looking at right now, he played in a systems offense (at Florida) that used to be somewhat unique. Now a lot of people are running it. It’s a little bit different than what we ask the quarterbacks in our league to do most of the time.

“The second thing is, his (throwing) motion has always been talked about a little bit. It’s always been my opinion that that’s the most difficult thing to change in any quarterback. I’ve read, I don’t know, that he’s got a number of guys coaching him up on that. He’s trying to to change it, it’s really hard to do, I think, particularly in pressure situations.”

Now, to whether Holmgren would even have Tebow on his team, that's another issue. “Absolutely," he said. "You need guys like that, players like that. That’s an ongoing study that will go right up to the draft for us as far as Tim’s concerned. I wish him well, I love him as a young man and as a player. It’s just how he will translate into our league.”
