People who are too loud could be slapped with a $250 civil fee, under a bill that passed the House Committee on Counties, Cities and Towns on Friday morning.
A subsequent violation could mean a $500 fine.
Currently, in communities like Virginia Beach, noise violations are criminal offenses. In Virginia Beach, violators are fined up to $500.
This bill, SB246, would give communities more flexibility in enforcing the ordinances, said Chris Boynton, an attorney for the city of Virginia Beach.
Some judges might to reluctant to convict a person of a criminal offense because he was too loud, Boynton said.
Several Virginia cities have been forced to revise their noise laws in recent months after a state Supreme Court decision on the issue. The court found that Virginia Beach’s noise law, which was similar to other cities, was too vague and overly reliant on the judgment of police officers. The city now has an ordinance with specific decibel levels.

It seems this story and the story about the bar in chick's beach are related. Both talk about noise levels and a persons rights.
A chemist in FL is serving life for murder - poisoning his
neighbors. I thought he must have been a sick demented monster until I learned that he had complained to them for years about the constant loud music that emanated from their home a few hundred yards away. This was a rural area where he and his wife moved for peace and quiet. Frankly, if I had sat on the jury, I would have voted for justifiable homicide. Play your music or make as much obnoxious noise as you like as long as you are the only one who has to hear it. If I am out and offended, I can go home. But where should I go when I am home and cannot escape your noise pollution?
Probably why
we have runaway juries. Poisoning is murder, definitely premeditated and despicable. Justified? HArdly. I hope you never serve on a jury
Constitution
The Constitution does not give you the "right" to force-feed 100+ decibel toxic noise into other people's houses and cars. Such noise is a pathogen and deliberate projection of it is criminal assault.
Go move to the f-USSR if you think it is so bad here ... don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Addii I agree but
Although your post was muddled, confusing and not well thought out, I do agree with you.
Protected Speech
Officer gave my friend a ticket for has his stereo cranked up at 3 am. Judge threw the case out and fired the Officer because it is protected speech. My friend is now set for life.
susanj
Your anti-police racist ranting is getting old. Get your facts straight. Statements without merit sound ridiculous and are very telling....
protected speech?
Apparently you are confused.
I call BS
Judge cant fire the Officer! Chief of Police would fire the officer which in this case im sure he was not fired anyways over issuing a subpoena at 3 in the morning for noise pollution
