CHESAPEAKE
A Virginia Beach man led Currituck County, N.C., sheriff's deputies on a chase Saturday afternoon before crashing on Battlefield Boulevard in Chesapeake, authorities said.
The chase started about 3:30 p.m. on N.C. 168 in Moyock when deputies with the Currituck Sheriff’s Office drug interdiction team tried to stop a Toyota, which sped away, Sheriff Susan Johnson said. Speeds reached more than 100 mph, but the deputies stopped following when the Toyota crossed into Chesapeake, she said.
They recovered what they believe to be large amounts of heroin, crack cocaine and marijuana thrown from the Toyota.
The vehicle involved in the chase crashed into four other vehicles on Battlefield Boulevard at Cedar Road then crashed in the 200 block of Battlefield, Chesapeake police said. No injuries were reported. The driver and two passengers were arrested.
The driver, identified as Dimitric K. Evans, 28, of the 300 block of Barnstable Quay in Virginia Beach has been charged in Currituck County with felony fleeing to elude arrest and in Chesapeake with four counts of hit and run.
A passenger in the Toyota has felony drug charges pending, Johnson said. The passengers' names were not available.
Chesapeake police were not involved in the pursuit, said Officer Dorienne Boykin, a department spokeswoman.
