Police say a capuchin monkey attacked its 60-year-old owner when the man stepped on his tail Wednesday.
Suffering from several bites, the man put the monkey in his cage and went to a neighbor's house on Washington Drive, where he called for help about 6 p.m.
The man was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The monkey has lived with the man for several years and is a certified service animal, police said. The man also has an exotic animal permit.
