Condo building resumes at troubled Ocean View project

Posted to: Business Norfolk Realty News

NORFOLK

Construction has begun on a new phase of units at the Harbor Walk condominium community in the Ocean View neighborhood.

Virginia Beach-based condo developer Franciscus Co. agreed last fall to buy the remaining parcels of land at the beleaguered community and build 157 more homes there.

In May 2009, Florida-based developer Henin Group abandoned the project after several homeowners at Harbor Walk discovered that their condos were built with Chinese-made drywall, the building material under investigation by the federal government over claims that it emits a corrosive gas that damages household electrical systems and causes respiratory problems. Previous homeowners at the community had also complained of damage to their units from water.

Franciscus plans to build the new condos, to be called Pointe East at Harbor Walk, during the next three years.

The article last night

The article last night stated that fact (about two homeowners associations). This second article said nothing about it.

misinformation

of the 100+ units there, 3 yes THREE, have chinese drywall. There's only one homeowner association. It's a nice place. The original developer ran home to Florida when he went broke. The "issues" are greatly overblown. No I don't own a home there, but a friend does.

Separate Homeowners Association

Glad I don't live there. Same land but with two separate homeowners associations. I can see the trouble brewing now. It will be some real dog fights. This should make some attorneys rich in Tidewater.

2 hoa's ???

The article didn't say anything about ANY homeowners association, why would you think there would be 2 of them? There were 2 developers, but now there is only one, and they develop land, they do not run HOA's. What did I miss?
