Ghent Starbucks reopens after shots break glass

Posted to: Crime News Norfolk

NORFOLK

Shots were fired into the Starbucks Coffee shop on Colley Avenue just before 2:30 a.m. today, shattering the plate-glass windows. No one was inside at the time, said a police spokeswoman.

The first of several calls to the police came in at 2:27 a.m. Police are investigating the shooting.

The shop reopened at noon. At 7 a.m., outside the shop, an employee was posted to greet approaching customers.

“We’re not open today,” the woman told one passer-by. “We have a drive-through window.”

A nearby Starbucks on West 21st Street remained open.

Starbucks is the largest retail chain targeted this year by gun owners who want to exercise and advertise their rights in states, such as Virginia, that allow people to openly carry firearms, The Associated Press has reported. Private businesses are allowed to ban them, but Starbucks responded with a statement that its stores would follow state and local laws and allow firearms here.

Norfolk police haven’t seen protests by either gun owners or those objecting to open displays of guns in coffee shops, said Master Police Officer Chris Amos, a department spokesman.

“Again, we don’t know if Starbucks was even targeted,” Amos said today. “We know it was hit. Was somebody standing in front of it?”

Pilot writer Matthew Bowers contributed to this report.

Ghent

The only people who say Ghent is safe are people who live there and real estate agents.

PACK HEAT

I've got a concealed carry permit. I don't go out after dark in Norfolk without being armed. Too many savages loose on the streets of this town.

idiots come in all sizes, colors, and persuasions

Maybe if we had more stop signs to shoot out, they wouldn't have to shoot out windows.

Can you stoop any lower?

My God Pilot, to attempt to tie this shooting (which, chances are, is far more likely attributable to gangbangers, teens, or even jilted lovers than someone wanting a coffee chain to recognize their right to carry) is a stretch even for you guys!
Trust me, it's long been a cinch to see how far you've been willing to support the far Left agenda (anti-gun among other abuses) - it's really not necessary to make it all the more obvious with ridiculous editorializing in a pure "news" item.
I just hope you all can avoid going down the tubes long enough until a real newspaper takes root again in these parts. As sorry as you're becoming, unfortunately you're the only game in town.

Maybe it's the lefty anti-gun nuts doing the shooting.

"Starbucks responded with a statement that its stores would follow state and local laws and allow firearms here."
Wadda ya think, huh? We Bolsheviks just want your guns, we'll keep ours. We don't need no stinking permits. Oouah ha ha!

"Maybe it's the Lefty anti-gun nuts dong the shooting"

You might be onto something there, comrade.
As sneaky & underhanded as the apparatchiks at the national level are getting (e.g. ignoring the Constitution & pulling their shenanigans in an effort to impose their Citizen Control Program disguised as a Health Care Program that nobody wants) it's not only possible but probable it was a far Leftist of some stripe, knowing full well the media lapdogs would help blame it on the other side. Happens all the time.

Yeah, just like the bombing of the Reichstag.

You're traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind; a journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's the signpost up ahead — your next stop, a Tea Party.

First impressions

As first impressions are right more often than wrong, I would surmise a clamp down on all gangs might create a safer environment in which the local citizenry could live in peace. I'd bet a dollar to a donut it's the result of gang initiation rites.

Starbucks

The residents in Ghent and Larchmont pay HUGE taxes and as always we are getting robbed. Can we not have one safe area in Norfolk!? How does the city expect to sell real estate when we are continually assaulted by non-residents ruining our small, very small, piece of Norfolk. Downtown has become the new gangster area..gone totally downhill, we are too scared to go out at night because of all the new elements. Now....even the ghent establishments are being attacked on a daily basis by non-residents from other parts of Norfolk. To make matters worse, the city and mayor are dragging our schools down with the rest of the city. The only decent schools at Meadowbrook, Taylor, Larchmont Elementary, Blair, and Maury are all having many teachers and resources pulled next year. Classes will have 4-5 more students!!! This is why we have the HIGHEST property taxes in Norfolk. Meadowbrook Intl School(magnet school) is being moved to Rosemont Elementary...are you kidding. So..the city is moving its best and brightest young students to "Roachmont" which is rundown and carries very low standards versus the afformentioned schools. I dont even feel comfortable with my child going to those parts
