Gloucester man dies in wrong-way accident

A Gloucester man died Wednesday of injuries after a collision with a motorist driving the wrong way on Va. 199 on the overpass of Interstate 64.

Robert Wade Brooks, 43, died at  Williamsburg Hospital, according to Sgt. Michelle Cotten, a Virginia Police spokeswoman.

George Richard Lawson, 80, was driving his two-door Mercedes Benz  westbound in the eastbound lane when he struck Brooks' Ford Escort head-on. Lawson has been charged with reckless driving. He was treated for minor injuries at Riverside Hospital.
