Governor extending Va. pothole blitz

RICHMOND

Gov. Bob McDonnell is extending a statewide pothole blitz.

The effort began March 1 with the purpose of patching thousands of potholes on state-maintained roads resulting from this winter’s harsh weather. Virginia Department of Transportation crews have patched, repaired or filled more than 120,000 potholes, according to a news release from the governor’s office. As a result of its success, the governor is extending the blitz through April 15.

“Continued wet conditions in March have resulted in even more pavement failures needing attention,” the governor’s news release said.

Drivers may contact VDOT to report potholes and crews are then dispatched to work through assigned corridors. Repairs are prioritized based on severity and location.

To report a pothole, visit www.virginiadot.org or call the VDOT Highway Helpline at 1-800-367-ROAD (7623). TTY users may call 711.
