A 26-year-old Hampton man has been arrested in the shooting of another man during a drug deal, police said today.

Johnathan C. Long of the first block of Emeraude Plage was arrested Saturday and charged with multiple felonies in the Friday night shooting, which happened in the area of Long’s home, Hampton police said.

An unidentified 29-year-old Hampton man was shot multiple times and taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, said Cpl. Paula Scheck, a police spokeswoman. No update was available on his condition.

Investigators believe Long shot the 29-year-old during a drug deal, Scheck said. Long was shot in one of his legs in an exchange of gunfire with the other man.

Long is charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm while in the possession of cocaine and possession of ecstasy. He was being held at the Hampton City Jail.
