Hampton researcher named Engineer of the Year

Posted to: News

Michael G. Gilbert of NASA Langley Research Center has been named the 2010 Engineer of the Year by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Gilbert led the technical planning and execution of last year's launch-abort system flight demonstration.

The system, which can be used by any future crewed spacecraft, propels the crew capsule away from a problem on the launch pad or during ascent. It was tested at Wallops Island.
