HHGregg appliance stores open in Hampton Roads

Posted to: Business Consumer Virginia Beach

Appliance and electronics retailer HHGregg officially opens its first Hampton Roads stores Thursday.

The new stores, in Virginia Beach and Newport News, had "soft" openings earlier this week. That allows retailers to open quietly to fewer shoppers so they can iron out glitches before an official opening.

HHGregg, based in Indianapolis, sells major appliances and electronics - such as washing machines, televisions, microwave ovens and MP3 players - as well as mattresses. It is hosting a "grand opening sale" at the stores through March 20.

In electronics, HHGregg fills a competitive gap left when Circuit City closed all of its stores and went out of business a year ago.

Map Error

Someone needs to double check the address they used for the associated Google map. The store is actually located at the intersection of Va Beach Blvd and N Plaza/Little Neck across the street from Sam's Club not near Towne Center.

Are they going to stock up more?

I checked out the new store, and it was rather limited on product variety. It won't fill the gap of Circuit City and compete with Best Buy unless they handle computers and video games. It was mostly appliances and TVs.
