What I don't understand is why their motto is in Spanish with English subtitles.

USS New Mexico SSN779

Bless those who serve beneath the deep,
Through lonely hours their vigil keep.
May peace their mission ever be,
Protect each one we ask of thee.
Bless those at home who wait and pray,
For their return by night or day.

New Mexico is...

a fine lady. I think it was money well spent, and will be an asset to our fighting forces. I pray that our Lord, will watch over and protect those, who will serve on-board her.

True homeland Security

I can see that I'm in good comany on this site. God bless the patriots of the USA

I don't understand this

I don't understand this country sometimes. We should not be so media friendly. Post 9/11 there were shows and articles about how they plan to stop terrorism and what they will be looking for. Hello? Do you think terrorists don't watch TV? Good thinking show them what you're looking for so they can have a different approach. Now they're giving tours of a high powered war machine. I know what's in there because I helped build it and I'm darn proud of it. Although I don't think they should have it online for open access though. Too much media involved with things I feel should be kept secret to hold the edge over the enemy. Just my opinion though. Oh yea, this is money well spent too. If you don't want your taxes going into defending your freedom then go somewhere else.

Magnificent.

And, these ships are planned

And, these ships are planned and budgeted years in advance - they take years to build - and in this ship's case, it was paid for way before the economic downturn occurred.

Post Cold War Boondoggle

How much did this attack submarine cost us? Given our economy and the cuts we are facing, couldn't our taxes be put to better use?

What country are you from?

Our taxes couldn't be put to a better use than maintaining our defense and security. Anything left over from that should be sent back to us so we can spend it as we see fit, and businesses can hire people to meet the demands of their customers, thereby reducing unemployment.

post coldwar

The source of your "worry" about our economic disaster doesn't stem from strengthening our defense. It stems from unconstitutional spending for things like "health care", "cap and trade", "entitlements to illegals", etc. In short, totalitarian government control. If you're concerned about our failing economy, address those issues vs. the means to support our/your freedoms and way of life.
