Police have arrested a 16-year-old in the robbery of a Citgo gas station Monday.
About 3:10 p.m., a teen entered the station’s restroom and emerged with a hood over his head, according to a news release. He approached the counter, put a knife to the clerk’s neck and demanded money. The clerk activated an alarm and the teen fled without taking any money, according to the release.
A second clerk at the gas station, located at 5820 Northampton Boulevard, chased him and saw him go into the Wingate by Wyndham hotel about a block away, according to the release. Police arrived, surrounded the hotel and located the teen inside within 11 minutes of the robbery, police said.
The teen has been charged with attempted armed robbery and is being held in the Virginia Beach Juvenile Detention Center until a court hearing, police said. Police are not releasing his identity because he is a minor.
