Navy hospital ship Comfort set to depart Haiti

Posted to: Military Portsmouth

The Navy hospital ship Comfort is wrapping up its relief mission in Haiti, the military announced this morning.

The Baltimore-based ship has been anchored off the coast of Port-au-Prince since Jan. 20. It’s set to leave Wednesday, U.S. Southern Command said in a statement.

Essentially a floating hospital, the ship has taken on and treated hundreds of victims of Haiti’s devastating January earthquake.

About 200 personnel from the Portsmouth Naval Medical Center were dispatched soon after the quake to serve aboard Comfort. More than half are still there.

It is a hospital

It is not "essentially" a floating hospital it is--hence the name hospital ship. In fact it is larger than most hospitals in CONUS.

you are correct

it is a floating hospital/trauma center...capable of handling large scale medical crisis and relief.

SO WHERE TO NOW?

They should be on their way to Chile, right? Let's be fair about this now...
