Navy retirement and new posts announced

At NATO's Supreme Allied Command Transformation in Norfolk, Navy Rear Adm. Carol M. Pottenger has been nominated for promotion to vice admiral and assignment as deputy chief of staff for capability development. She currently heads Navy Expeditionary Combat Command in Norfolk.

Rear Adm. Michael H. Mittelman, the command's medical adviser, has been selected for promotion to rear admiral upper half and will be assigned as fleet surgeon for the Navy's Pacific Fleet and command surgeon at Pacific Command in Hawaii. Mitt elman also serves as command surgeon at Joint Forces Command in Norfolk.

At Fleet Forces Command in Norfolk, Rear Adm. William M. Roberts will be assigned as fleet surgeon. He is director of the medical resources, plans, and policy division in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington.

At Portsmouth Naval Medical Center, Rear Adm. Alton L. Stocks will be assigned as commander of the center and of Navy Medicine East. He is fleet surgeon at Fleet Forces Command.

At Naval Surface Force Atlantic in Norfolk, Capt. Robert Oldani, the deputy commander and chief of staff, has retired. During his 30-year Navy career, Oldani served aboard the aircraft carriers Enterprise and Eisenhower, the cruisers Arkansas, Monterey and Antietam, and the frigates Bowen and Estocin.
