- nip / tuck - Edgy? Totally crazy? Depravity run amok? Yes, yes & yes. I MISS IT ALREADY!

I finally got around to watching the series finale of FX's 'nip/tuck' tonight. As we were fast forwarding through one of the later commercials I told THE MR., "There's only a few minutes left, and they're leaving a whole lot of loose ends." Hard to believe, but the show DID manage to tie up the loose ends and send everyone off to their new lives - at least those characters who still had lives.

nip/tuck was dark and wild and creepy and surprising and even sometimes erotic in its own depraved way. And it was fun. I'm going to miss Christian and Sean and Julia and Kimber and Matt and Liz and all the other crazies that showed up in and around the offices and homes of plastic surgeons Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) and Christian Troy (Julian McMahon).

The show was never for the prudish, squeamish or faint of heart. Luckily, I'm none of those, and it never failed to entertain on some freakish level. Every episode offered a train wreck of some sort, but still  . . . it was one hoot of a ride.

Usually, when a series ends that I've watched from the beginning it feels like saying goodbye to friends who've moved away for good. Not so in this show, and thank goodness; I don't think I would have wanted a one of these people as a ' friend'. (Although, Dr. Troy . . . well, that's for another blog, altogether.)

True to the adage that some things never change, Dr. Troy left us with one final, wickedly seductive grin:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meSn2cbL6F8

An E-mailer writes . . .

"Missed your blog this past week; welcome back! As for "Nip/Tuck", we don't watch; I'm afraid to start. Smile. The last time I took your review seriously, Joe and I found ourselves hooked into "True Blood" and had to catch up on several seasons! Loved every minute of it........!!!"

Speaking of True Blood,

. . . when's that due back, I wonder. I miss Sookie and Bill.

Well, nip/tuck is done as a series, but I'm sure the seasons are available if you want to check it out. Since 2003 there's been plenty of wild stuff happening in those offices and operating rooms, that's for sure. Some seasons were darker than others and they were All pretty dark and weird. ha.

I'm looking forward now to the new series on FX - 'JUSTIFIED', starring Timothy Olyphant, who was cooler than cool as the sheriff on HBO's DEADWOOD, and more recently on DAMAGES (also on FX).

There is certainly something for EVERY taste on TV. Thanks for the note. Jane/Golf, Politics and Beyond

True Blood.

I got mad at HBO and canceled them a while back so I haven't seen True Blood. I've thought of asking Lydia to tivo it for me at her house, but then I wondered if it would be possible to find actors as delightful as characters in the book series. Have you read the books and is the TV series as good?

Did not read the books.

No, I haven't read any of the books, and maybe that's to my advantage. It is kind of hard to switch from the preconceived ideas about characters and how they look as we've imagined them in our minds, to the real flesh and bones actors who portray them. I think often, though, if the show or movie is well written it's not hard to overcome. From all that I've read about the HBO series, TRUE BLOOD, the author of the books has been involved to some degree, so hopefully the actors coincided somewhat with her ideas.

As a friend of mine said not too long ago about the series, 'If you didn't run for the remote to change the channel during the opening credits, you'll probably be OK with the show.' I have to agree. Paired with that theme song and its beat, those are some of the most disturbing scenes that we get to see EVERY week, no less, as any I've seen on TV. Edgy and then some.

I think YOU'D love it, oyvey. Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay in posting it. /G,P & B

I can understand . . . .

As for me, Cops is a wonderful show. I am constantly amazed at the sheer stupidity of the criminal element depicted on that show. Similarly, there are absolute moronic fools that appear before Judge Judy and Judge Joe Brown. Such hilarious shows; even their misery, the misery of the people appearing before them, is somewhat hilarious and so often unbelievable.

You nailed it - UNBELIEVABLE.

I know exactly what you mean, Archie. I watch those shows on occasion and I always end up wondering, 'How on earth did you make it to adulthood when you're THIS stupid?' I feel down right genius-like after a half hour with those folks.

Hey,

I, too, am fond of low-brow TV. I think it's for the same reason that I value mean and evil T-Bone...I get vicarious fun out of watching others engage in conduct I'll never even consider trying. When Tony Soprano sent his boat to anchor just off the home of someone who disrespected him, hour after hour blasting Dean Martin tunes through enormous speakers...I loved that. When the Real Housewives act up, I cackle gleefully...the one from New Jersey who tossed the table at a fancy dinner party...teehee. Sheree who tried to yank Kim's wig off...hahahaha! Idiots on Tool Academy who let out a gutteral roar and go for each others' throats...hardeharhar.

I'm not alone -

I'm not alone - thank heavens! Season after season the good (?) surgeons found multiple ways to make their lives as complicated as possible. Talk about your bad decisions, Sean constantly ended up with goofy woman or another in his search for real love. The only thing he accomplished was to continuously picking meaner and crueler women. Christian on the other hand, picked women just as loopy and deranged, but for him, they simply delivered more excitement and pizazz.

I'm with you about the many crazies on TV - love 'em! Wouldn't want to be 'em, and wouldn't want to know 'em; but, they certainly are fun. I still miss Tony and Carmela and their band of merry-makers.
