Waggin' Tails

Wondering what you can do with your dog in Hampton Roads? Get the answers here. I'll be discussing dog care, nutrition, training, play, and games to play with your dog.

Pet owners should be well informed when it comes to caring for their pet. Recalls on food ingredients, brand name foods, and toys make it necessary for pet parents to have information. But there is so much information it would make your head spin. Angie has a knack for getting and sorting this information. Having run two pet related businesses and having rescued two dogs so far, she has years of experience in pet care and training. For questions or comments, you can contact her at bigdogmom@mailpuppy.com.

One More Recall

You know how they say that dogs have people and cats have staff? That’s definitely true. My cats think that I’m just here to open the door for them to go out or come in and to keep the food bowl full. I’ve got to get a cat door.

I do have some good news. Mitzi has a home. The lady who was fostering her decided to keep her. I think that’s wonderful. It’s not easy finding homes for older pets. Now we need to find a home for Bubba. He’s a 14 year old lab mix at the Virginia Beach Animal Control shelter.

Now about the recall. It’s not a new one but it’s an expanded one. Nature’s Variety expanded its recall of Chicken Formula Raw Frozen Diets for dogs and cats because of possible Salmonella contamination. No pets or people have been ill and this is a voluntary recall. This recall is for all Chicken and Organic Chicken Formulas with a “Best If Used By” date of 2/5/11 and earlier. For more info, check out www.truthaboutpetfood.com/articles/natures-variety-expands-recall.html. For a statement from the company, go to www.naturesvariety.com/news/33.

While you’re online, go to http://bestpetstickers.com/beagle_week_2010.html and get your beagle stuff. Enter “Beagles to the Rescue” in the box at checkout and $5 goes to BTTR. This fundraiser with Simple Dog runs through March 12th.

The Suffolk Humane Society is celebrating its 3rd anniversary tomorrow at the Mosaic Café. The party starts at 6 and runs until 9. Thirteen percent of the meal bill goes to SHS.  Mosaic Café is located at 110 West Finney Avenue in the Suffolk Center for the Cultural Arts.

Here’s something you need to plan for. Hawley Miller is a local pet psychic. She helps people communicate with pets that have passed on as well as the ones they have with them. Here’s the good news: she’s going to be at the Animal Medical Care Center in Tabb on March 27th from 9 to 12. You need to call and make an appointment as soon as possible because I think the time slots will fill up fast. A ten minute session will cost $15. To save your space, call the clinic at 867-8808. The AMCC is on Route 17 between Victory Boulevard and Hampton Highway, across from the Tabb Super Wal-mart.

That’s it for today. My crew is testing samples this evening. I’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow.
