Online college offers military spouse scholarships

Posted to: Military Virginia Beach

Bryant & Stratton College, which has a campus in Virginia Beach, is offering scholarships to the first 100 qualified applicants in lieu of the halted Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts program.

The "Salute to Spouses" scholarship will provide up to $6,000 to attend the school online. Requirements include being a military spouse with military identification, graduating high school prior to the current academic year, submitting an essay and following all scholarship policies for the college.

More information is available online at www.salutetospouses.com.

If the MyCAA program is reinstated, using it in combination with the college's scholarship may not exceed the cost of tuition.

THANK YOU

What a great program put out by this school. I would hope that many of your Military Dependants by getting the grant/scholarship or not would switch thier programs of study to go through this college.
Things like this really make me feel good about being an American!!! My hats off to all of you that made this happen, you're changing lives of service members and their families. You'll be blessed TEN FOLD!!

I just contacted the college

I just contacted the college for more information about this program and applied. I even scanned my transcripts for them to be evaluated. And then I was told the scholarship would be applied over terms at $1200 a term. Furthermore, each class per term costs $1494. So, 4 classes in a term comes right under the $6000. I think the paper should inform military spouses a little better. That costs more than most universities across the nation. Just something to think about.

So, in essence, without any

So, in essence, without any other aid, you would have to come out of pocket about $4500, not including books and whatnot. I think they are great to offer a scholarship to military spouses, but make sure you can't get one somewhere else at a better cost.

Salute to Spouses Mirrors MyCAA Amount

Readers should note that before the Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts program (MyCAA) was suspended, the amount of financial aid it offered to military spouses was up to $6,000 for college or career training.

The Salute to Spouses scholarship program will provide 100 military spouses affected by the MyCAA suspension an opportunity to pursue career education at Bryant & Stratton College Online and receive the same level of financial assistance that they would have under MyCAA.
