A suspicious package found outside Western Branch High School this afternoon did not pose a threat.

The school was on lock-down for about two hours after the item was found near a construction area outside the school, said Capt. Simone Gulisano, fire department spokesman. The fire marshal determined that the package was safe.

Tom Cupitt, spokesman for Chesapeake schools, said parents were notified via the alert system.

"Everything went back to normal about 3:10," Cupitt said. School was dismissed at its regular time.
