10 things to do before moving to Hampton Roads

OK, so you're moving. There's a lot to do in the coming days, weeks and months. Here's a list to help you make sure you get everything squared away before joining us in Hampton Roads.

1. Utilities: Contact all utilities at both locations. Have utilities turned off at your old residence the day after you leave and have them turned on at your new address the day before you arrive. Let us help.

2. Telecommunications: Contact your telecommunications company of choice to order your new land line, fax and mobile numbers, and internet and cable services. Let us help.

3. Change of Address: Pick up a moving packet from any U.S. Post Office. This will contain an official change of address form and other helpful hints. Visit www.usps.gov/moversnet for more information.

4. Vehicles: Make sure you have your driver's license, auto registration and insurance records in an accessible place. You will need this information to register with the DMV. Let us help.

5. Medical and Dental Records: Contact your primary care physician and other specialists such as your dentist, as well as your pet's veterinarian for copies of medical records. You will want to pass on this valuable information to your new health care and animal care providers.

6. Prescriptions: Transfer current prescriptions to a drugstore near your new residence. This will save you any lapse in receiving the medication you need.

7. School Records: Contact your child's school or daycare and arrange for academic and immunization records to be forwarded to their new school. If you're shopping for a new school, Let us help.

8. Auto, Home and Health Insurance: Check with your insurance company to cancel your current coverage, transfer coverage or update your address.

9. Banking: Make bank account changes if necessary. Update your address and contact information.

10. Delivery Services and Subscriptions: Cancel delivery services such as the local newspaper and community newsletters. Contact ongoing subscriptions to update your address. Get set up with new local newspapers or community newsletters once you arrive at your new home. Let us help.
