that's not all
"Unemployed" stats only include people currently receiving unemployment benefits. So, if your unemployment benefits run out, your employer fought and prevented you from receiving unemployment benefits, you went from a job making $50,000 a year to $8 an hour 25 hours a week, or you're just too proud for whatever reason to file for them, you don't count in the number of people unemployed.
Don't break out the champagne just yet!
The sample size is relatively small....it includes full time, part time, and temporary workers. It even includes people working as little as 15 hours a week, if in a family business, even if they are unpaid!
Approximately 110 thousand people out of a labor force of around 150 million are sampled monthly. That's around 1/20th of one percent. That means 99.9% of the labor force is not interviewed! I wouldn't expect them to be....but it shows how tenuous the statistics can be, even with a slight deviation.
After they get their results, they add what is know as "seasonal adjustments"....more mathematical soup.
So, don't break out the champagne and party hats yet; one month is a worthless set of statistics, in my opinion.
