The Virginia Organizing Project, a Charlottesville-based grass-roots organization that sold cookies and cupcakes to raise money for the state budget shortfall, will present a $921 check to Gov. Bob McDonnell's office Friday, according to a news release.
The "Bake Sales for the Budget" were held in nine cities across Virginia – including Virginia Beach and Williamsburg – as a symbolic way to show state legislatures that there are responsible ways to increase revenue instead of cutting funds from schools, health services and public safety, said Teresa Stanley, the South Hampton Roads organizer.
The organizers promised to donate the money raised to the state's general fund.
Virginia faces a $4.2 billion shortfall overall; without a tax increase, legislatures must find an additional $2.2 billion in cuts. To close the gap, McDonnell last month proposed $731 million in cuts to public education and $316 million in cuts to health and human services.
The news release states, "$921.01 Down, Only $3,999,999,078.99 to Go."

Unless every group that holds a bake sale is suddenly newsworthy, I would drop this one from coverage, sister. Just sayin' . . .
What?
I'm sorry, what does this prove? What a waste of time.
